Restaurants for booking ahead
London remains in the grip of a restaurant boom, despite the UK's less than buoyant economy. This means that the visitor is spoilt for choice – but also that they need to be organised (or lucky) to secure a table. Obviously demand is highest on Friday and Saturday evenings but even mid-week and at lunch, it pays to book ahead, particularly with a large group.
If you are very organised and very lucky, you might manage to leave London altogether and get out to Bray, home of Heston Blumenthal's three Michelin-starred The Fat Duck, often acclaimed as the best restaurant in Britain. More achievable might be lunch at, er, Dinner his one-star restaurant in West London which offers a three course set menu for £38. Back in central London, if it was my money I'd be looking at Jason Atherton’s Pollen Street Social or grand European brassiere The Delaunay. Closer to the convention, near London Bridge station, are classy British bistro Magdalen, and Story from up-and-comer Tom Sellers (edible candles, FTW).
For carnivores, the best steakhouse is Hawksmoor. Their Air Street branch also serves seafood and is great for groups. For vegetarians and vegans, check out either Vanilla Black or Manna – the food is better at the former, the ambience is better at the latter. This is just the tip of the iceberg so peruse Time Out or The Good Food Guide (paper and iPhone app) and see if anything takes your fancy. Multiple local food options will also be provided by the Restaurant Guide team as part of the convention pack.
