Promote Your Club/Convention
We know that a Worldcon isn’t only about the things to see and do and take part in and talk about and eat and drink and write about and remember afterwards. No, for some of you it’s about serious business. Or is that serious fun?
In any case, one of the things you might want the chance to do at the World Science Fiction Convention is to promote your own convention. Or your SF club, or your fanzine or blog, or your fan fund or award, or your attempt to build a tower of beer cans to the moon to see whether it’s made of cheese that goes with beer.
This is a particular opportunity for groups and events in the London area to raise awareness of what you’re up to – but one of the great things about a Worldcon is the chance to reach a lot of other people who are enthusiastic about science fiction in the same way as you. And one of the great things about living in the future is that you don’t always have to be in the same geographical location to keep in touch afterwards.
Ways in which you might want to do that sort of awareness-raising and reaching out at Loncon 3 include:
- Booking a fan table to grab people's attention as they wander past all weekend (taping them to the floor while they're distracted can help with this). There's a list here of the conventions, bids and groups that have already booked. We're now close to full up, but please contact Charlotte at email@example.com and we might be able to fit you in.
- Producing leaflets or flyers to distribute. There will be tables or stands in which members of the convention can leave free materials for any other attendees to take away with them.
- Running a party. As explained here, the parties and the bar will all be co-located at Loncon 3 in one joyous evening social experience. Information about how to book a party space for one or more evenings can be found here.
Not all of these cost extra money, but they could help you to make sure people have heard about you and how to join you – in a good way!
